Archery For Beginners: Quiz Funnel
Overview
Archery for Beginners is a passion project I’ve worked on for a number of years as an outlet to grow my product design and marketing skills. I’ve been a lifelong archer and this website provides a chance for me to share what I’ve learned with others. This project has given me the chance to practice end-to-end product design, WordPress, content marketing, search engine optimization, Google Adsense, affiliate marketing, quiz funnels, course creation, and management of independent contractors. The following material dives into the quiz funnel I created that acts as a network to connect archery instructors with those looking to learn archery from a qualified professional.
Problem:
Archery has been around for centuries, but it’s difficult to learn about the sport and schedule lessons with qualified professionals in your area. Many people reach out to local archery shops to learn more, but brick and mortar stores are few and far between.
Objective:
Create a quiz funnel that determines what the user is looking for and match them with qualified professionals in the area, leading to the completion of a sale.
What I did:
Ground up product design including: conceptualization, wireframes, UI/UX design, prototyping, user testing, and optimization.
Quiz Funnel Foundations
It’s hard to know where to begin once deciding to learn archery. There’s so much to learn and information is scattered all across the internet. The quiz funnel meets the user right where they’re at by asking a few simple questions. This leads to a page of results tailored towards the user to solve their specific needs. This helps hook the user to stay engaged with the process and follow through to the purchase of a lesson package.
Quiz Filtering
In building the quiz funnel, I came up with a list of potential question options. I narrowed the questions down and correlated them directly with the filter options available on the results page. The quiz increases user engagement and reduces cognitive load to help the user filter results instead of presenting all the options at once. The design of the quiz is clean and simple, presenting a progress bar to guide users in their expectations.
Purchase Flow
Upon completion of the quiz funnel, users are presented with a number of instructors specific to their needs. Once the user selects an instructor and decides to “Book Lessons”, they are taken to the purchase page through to completion of the purchase with a confirmation page. The goal being to limit bounce rates by reducing friction in the purchasing process.
Prototyping & Testing
After all pages were complete, I created a prototype to work through partial functionality. This gave me the ability to do simple user testing. I tested both beginner and advanced archers to find any issues in the purchase flow and made adjustments as necessary. Feedback led to great insights and discussions that led to an improved experience.
Wrapping Up
The Archery For Beginners project as a whole provided great challenge and growth opportunity. I built everything from the ground up including conceptualization, wireframes, branding, design libraries, UI/UX, prototyping, user testing, WordPress, marketing, funnel software, all the way up to talking with engineers to make it a potential reality. The quiz funnel portion of the project was a great way to practice incorporating both product design and marketing for best results.
